Welcome to the Caverns of Sonora, one of the most beautiful and active caves in the world. The Caverns of Sonora is known as a National Natural Landmark where more than 95% of the formations in the cave are still "growing."
The Caverns of Sonora is located 8 miles west of Sonora, Texas, off of IH-10 on exit 392. Come experience the beauty that west Texas has to offer. At the Caverns of Sonora, there are many activities to keep you busy, such as: Sluicing for gems, exploring the nature trail, camping out in an RV or tent, and relaxing while enjoying the outdoors.
Tours of the cave leave the caverns gift shop constantly, with usually never more than a 30-minute wait. The tour takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes, covering 1 and 3/4 of a mile, and with only 12 people allowed per tour; you are sure to have a relaxed and pleasurable experience. If staying on the trail is not for you, the Caverns of Sonora also offers the Discovery Challenge Adventure Tour. You gear up for a one of a kind experience going off trail to try your hand at some real caving. You spend your last hour of this 4-hour trip doing a 43 foot repel into “Devil’s Pit.” This Tour is booked for a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 6. We also offer a 3-hour photo tour with a maximum of 3 people where you get to dictate which rooms you go to and how long you spend in these rooms. So, if you’re into photography or just want a more intimate experience in this gorgeous cave, we are happy to offer this tour to you. These special tours are reservation only, so please call in advance with your credit card in hand to confirm your time for the time of your life.
